Happy Birthday MR. (to you mf'r) Jerry Garcia. ALL of us miss you immensely.

What are you listening to to honor the one & only?

I've got the Love Scene & outtakes from Zabriskie Point playing through the Ipod. Usually I bring the All Good Things box set & blaze those CD's in order. After this it's a trip to Dusseldorf W. Germany at the Rheinhalle on April 24, 1972---GREAT SHIT MAN!!!!

Celebrate JG's LIFE on his b'day

03060065a.jpg

He's Gone

Rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb, you know better but I know him.
Like I told you, what I said, Steal your face right off your head.

Now he's gone, now he's gone, Lord he's gone, he's gone.
Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track
He's gone, gone, nothin's gonna bring him back...He's gone.

Nine mile skid on a ten mile ride, hot as a pistol but cool inside.
Cat on a tin roof, dogs in a pile,
Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile!!!!

Now he's gone, now he's gone Lord he's gone, he's gone.
Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track
He's gone, gone, nothin's gonna bring him back...He's gone.

Goin' where the wind don't blow so strange,
Maybe off on some high cold mountain chain.
Lost one round but the price wasn't anything,
A knife in the back and more of the same.

Same old, rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb,
You know better but I know him.
Like I told you, what I said,
Steal your face right off your head.

Now he's gone, now he's gone Lord he's gone, he's gone.
Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track
He's gone, gone, nothin's gonna bring him back...He's gone.

Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back

lmao... You guys make me wish I had Sirius. For the rest of us, this famous 1967 CBS news film-clip on YouTube includes what is perhaps Jerry's best interview. It has his best quote EVER! The clip is 7 minutes long. imho, it's the best Jerr-Phil-Bobby interview out there. It will forever be etched in our memory.

jerry5.jpg

Jerry Garcia, 1967: "What we're thinking about is a peaceful planet. We're not thinking of anything else. We're not thinking about any kind of power. We're not thinking about any of those kinds of struggles. We're not thinking about revolution or war or any of that. We would all like to be able to live an uncluttered life, a simple life, a good life and think about moving the whole human race ahead a step."

and where the "f" was Pig for this interview. Damn... hmmmmmm? Out-back, outside?

The world is just a little less vibrant without you around.

How about one of my favorite Garcia quips:

I read somewhere that 77 per cent of all the mentally ill live in poverty. Actually, I'm more intrigued by the 23 per cent who are apparently doing quite well for themselves.

Nice one Nick. what up bud? sorry its been a while,
something about a one legged man in an ass kicking contest, right? Im going down to a Volkswagon "meeting"
in German Village on High St. just south of I-70 tonight.
After the meeting, they usually have 20 or so bluegrass players, sitting in a circle in the downstairs bar area, passing around some good jams(Dark Hollow and such). If you are interested in going, or want to head down in Bertha with me, give me a call or an Email.

Spring Mnt High~ if you drop the word "for" out of your sentence, it makes much more sense to me.

Tree-ap~ Nice call on the 4/24/72. That Good Lovin always gives me goosebumps. But I think I will start with the Samba from todays 94 anniversary show.

NOT!!!

I probably will start with a Maykers show.
hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahhahah
ahahahahahahahhahahahahahahaha
ahahahahahahhahahahahah. whew. (wiping tears from my eye)
I kill me.

To answer your question seriously about what to listen to tree-ap, you will have to wait for my next post. I hope it doesn't piss people off, on this holiest of Dead days, but its been question thats been eating at me since He Lives 'Shakedown' post.

Craven,

I would truly dig the bluegrass jam, but I'm heading out of town for the Hall of Fame game in Canton tomorrow real friggin early (about 5 AM - going golfing w/ a bunch of friends I played ball with in college). The timing of it sucks though, Flogging Molly is playing tonight and I'd like to check that out too.

Definitely let me know the next time that goes down. Thinking about going to see the Crow's next week if you are so inclined.

Nick

I didn't know today was Jerry's birthday. I know he can see us. I am very grateful he has created a lifetime of music to listen to. I seriously couldn't make it without him. I am from the younger generation I am 25 so I never got to see him play because I didn't really get into the Dead until I was in High School. But now Jerry is almost my favorite thing in my life. I know his Death was not in vein because I think he passed on for a greater purpose. And now we all have something to be thankful for.

My birthday is Sept 8th which happens to be the same as pigpen's.

My eight year old recently joined the flock.

The other night while I was blasting yet another killer show. My eight year old daughter asked my wife: "Mom, what's a Deadhead", My Wife: "It's someone who likes the Grateful Dead more than they need to", daughter: "Mom, I think I'm a Deadhead".

I'm so proud of her!!!

Kudos to your 8 year old - my 7 yr old daughter will often ask for "Jerry music". Drives my wife nuts. She likes to leave the house, go run errands, and come back and say, "Oh, is this still the same song?"

The other day my wife hit 'skip' and I said "Hey, I was listening to that", She says "It sounded like they were in some drug induced stupor", So I say "That was the end of Estimated Prophet", and she says "What, you know the names of the Songs?". Well I let that sink in before: "Of course I know the names."

^ I LOL'd--my other half would agree with that definition, for sure. It still baffles me how someone can be exposed to such amazing shows and still not really "get it." We're of a strange breed, we are. Glad that one of your brood is into the pudding now, Mr. Glynn!

Today it's all about the Spectrum run in October '89 for me. I'm cranking out the sublime Bird Song > TMNS from the 18th and then I plan on skipping over to the monstrous H > S! > F from the next night.

Missing the maestro immensely, even if I was too young to catch him while he was still around. What I'd give for a time machine!

I've never done this before, but your post made me laugh so hard I just forwarded it to my wife, who I think will want to become BFF with yours based on the exact same feelings she has about putting up with a DeadHead husband.

We're about to have our first child and I can only hope he or she comes around the way your 8-year old did.

Nice.
"Well I married me a wife, shes been trouble all my life". My wife is one of those who said "I'll be grateful when their dead". Ugh. Well, they've been gone, but their music is strnger than ever in my life. I have four kids and whenever my wife's not around, or we're in my car we crank up the dead. Nothing like my 6-year old girl (the youngest) singing "going down the road feeling bad". There only complaint is the songs are too long. I ask, what's wrong with a 30 minute Dark Star.
Turn the kids on to Jerry. Oh -- and my aunt just gave birth to her first kid this morning. Jerry's day.
yay dead.

I didn't think of that. Thanks...I'll do that here shortly.

I got reamed last year for all of the tunes that had been DL'd from the Tapers Section @ dead.net that I unknowingly had on the company server---they've since all been moved to my own hard drive. That was before dead.net "fixed" the problem of people DL'ing rather that just streaming the tunes posted on there. It seems to me they didn't know what they were doing at first, because each time I clicked on a song(s), it immediately started DL'ing to my drive, rather than just giving me the player & streaming it. O'well, at least I have a gig or so of music from the Tapers Section.
